Welcome to the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys!

My name is Leah Cintineo and I am honored to be named the 44th President of GRAWA.

This year, GRAWA will turn our focus to attorney mental health and wellness initiatives. Law is a challenging profession. Stress levels are high. The pressure is on to get good outcomes for your clients. Loneliness is a hidden occupational risk for attorneys. Despite being surrounded by clients and colleagues, and having more ways than ever to communicate, many lawyers feel profoundly lonely and disconnected. Lawyers have constant interaction- but without meaningful connection.

Heavy caseloads, billable hour pressure, relentless deadlines, and the solitary nature of legal work all contribute to this problem. We work in a competitive culture that discourages vulnerability. We are already in a profession marked by elevated rates of anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and burnout.

Attorneys need connection. Attorneys need community. Attorneys need to be able to speak with others who are going through similar situations. We need to have friends and colleagues who “get it.” Being a member of GRAWA allows local women attorneys to share this common experience.

Come as You Are.

Everyone is going through stressors in their lives, whether at work or in our personal lives. Whatever stage in life you are at, whatever your life stressors, there is a place for you here at GRAWA.

Come for support. Come to make friends and connect with lawyers going through what you are going through. There is a perception that we all need to be perfect and pretend that everything is great. When we admit that things are stressful, or that we may be in a season where we are in survival mode - that is when we can receive the support from our community that we need.

Come as you are. We are all doing our best each day. It is in community that we can lift each other up as the amazing organization that we are.
